Tampa Video Production From Script to Screen

Brandefy is a video production company founded in 2011, with a Tampa office on East Kennedy Boulevard downtown. We write, film, and finish each project ourselves, so it stays with one team the whole way.

Work around Tampa Bay covers a lot of ground: hospital systems, banks and insurers, home-service companies, hotels, and the port. The crew is sized to the job, from a small interview setup to a full commercial shoot.

Do You Need a Permit to Film in Tampa?

Film Tampa Bay, the area’s film commission, runs one permitting process for the City of Tampa, Hillsborough County, Plant City, and Temple Terrace. Whether you need a permit depends on where and how you shoot.

A permit is required for

  • Commercial filming on public property, such as parks, streets, sidewalks, and bridges
  • A crane, dolly, or jib in a public space
  • Anything that slows or blocks traffic or pedestrians
  • A grip and lighting truck
  • Stunts, special effects, animals, or prop weapons
  • Filming in a public place before sunrise or after sunset

No permit is needed for

  • Interiors of private offices, homes, and studios
  • Private outdoor property, with the owner’s permission, when nothing spills onto public space
  • Newsgathering
  • Unpaid or incidental photography that involves none of the items on the left
  • Photo crews of five people or fewer in county parks, using only handheld cameras or tripods
CostFilm Tampa Bay issues permits at no charge. Reserved parking, road closures, and off-duty officers are billed separately.
InsuranceA certificate of insurance has to name each city or county you film in as an additional insured.
Port Tampa BayThe port must approve filming on its property and asks to hear from productions at least five weeks ahead. Its base video rate is $1,250 per location per day.
WeatherAtlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, and summer afternoons often bring storms, so outdoor shoots need a rain plan.
DronesTampa International Airport and MacDill Air Force Base are both close to downtown, so many flights need FAA airspace authorization first.
Across the baySt. Petersburg and Clearwater are in Pinellas County, which has its own film commission and its own permits.

Tampa Video Production: Questions and Answers

Where is the Brandefy Tampa office?

At 501 East Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33602, in the downtown business district. The company has been running since 2011, and its home office is in Santa Monica, California.

What budget should a Tampa business plan for?

Expect roughly $5,000 for a simple single-day project and $100,000 or more for a multi-day commercial or an animation-heavy campaign. We quote each job after learning the scope, so the number reflects your actual shoot.

How quickly can you turn a video around?

Simple projects take about two to four weeks, mid-size ones four to six, and campaigns twelve weeks or more. If your deadline is tighter than that, tell us at the start.

Do we need a film permit in Tampa?

For commercial filming on public property, yes. Film Tampa Bay handles permits for Tampa, Hillsborough County, Plant City, and Temple Terrace, and issues them at no charge. Shoots that stay on private property generally do not need one.

What happens if it rains on the shoot day?

Summer storms are common here, and hurricane season runs from June through November. For outdoor shoots we arrange a covered fallback or a backup date in advance and keep an eye on the forecast in the days before filming.

Do you film in St. Petersburg and Clearwater?

Yes. We cover both sides of the bay. Pinellas County has its own film commission, so permits there are handled separately from Tampa’s.

What kinds of projects do you take on?

What information goes into a quote?

Four things: what the video is for, where it will run, your deadline, and a budget range. Share them in the quote form or by phone at (424) 835-0405, and a proposal follows.
