What Brandefy Does in Dallas

Brandefy’s Dallas office is in Preston Center. We are a full-service video production company, and since 2011 we have delivered more than 3,000 projects for over 500 clients, from single testimonial videos to multi-part campaigns.

Full-service means the creative, the shoot, and the edit all come from one team, so the idea you approve in the storyboard is the one that reaches the screen.

You sign off on the script and storyboard before anything is filmed, review the edit before it is final, and receive files in the formats your channels need.

Before You Film in Dallas

The paperwork and the conditions that shape a schedule in North Texas.

Rules and paperwork

City permits
Commercial filming on City of Dallas property goes through the Office of Special Events. That covers streets, sidewalks, and parking lanes, and also city parks and plazas such as Dealey Plaza and City Hall Plaza, even for B-roll.
Drones
Drone footage has to be flown by a pilot who holds an FAA Part 107 certificate. Much of Dallas sits in controlled airspace around Love Field and DFW Airport, so flights need FAA authorization before the shoot day.
Texas incentive
A commercial project with $100,000 or more in Texas spending can apply for a state cash grant, paid at 5% up to $1 million and 10% above that. At least 35% of paid cast and crew must be Texas residents, and 60% of the production has to be completed in Texas.

Weather and timing

Summer heat
From June through September, afternoon highs often reach 100 degrees. We put exteriors at the start and end of the day and keep midday for interiors.
Spring storms
March through May is severe-weather season in North Texas, with hail and fast-moving thunderstorms. Anything outdoors gets a rain date and a covered backup location.
Crowded dates
The State Fair of Texas fills Fair Park for about three weeks from late September into October, and Cowboys home games tie up Arlington. Hotels and traffic get tight around both.

Dallas Video Production FAQ

What does a Dallas video project cost?

Brandefy projects start around $5,000 for a single, simple video. Extra shoot days, larger crews, paid talent, and animation add to that, and larger productions run $100,000 or more. You get an itemized quote once we have talked through the project.

How long will our project take?

A simple piece usually takes 2 to 4 weeks and a typical project 4 to 6. Campaigns with several videos can take 12 weeks or more. A shoot on city property adds time for the permit.

Where is Brandefy’s Dallas office?

The office is at 5960 Berkshire Lane, Dallas, TX 75225, in Preston Center. Company headquarters are in Santa Monica, California, and Brandefy has been in business since 2011.

Is a city permit required to film in Dallas?

You do when the shoot uses City of Dallas property. The Office of Special Events issues commercial filming permits for streets, sidewalks, parking lanes, and city buildings, parks, and plazas. Filming inside a private business or home is arranged with the owner, and a city permit is generally needed only when the shoot also uses public space.

Can we get B-roll at Dealey Plaza or City Hall Plaza?

Yes, with a permit. The city lists B-roll of its parks and plazas, including Dealey Plaza, Pioneer Plaza, and City Hall Plaza, among the activities that need a commercial filming permit. We apply for it during pre-production.

How do you handle the Texas heat on a shoot?

Scheduling does most of the work. Outdoor scenes go early in the morning or near sunset, and the middle of the day is kept for interiors. On set we plan shade, water, and breaks for the cast and crew, and we protect cameras and batteries from direct sun.

Do Texas incentives cover a commercial shot in Dallas?

Yes, if the project is large enough. The state program, known as TMIIIP, pays a cash grant once a commercial project reaches $100,000 in Texas spending. The rate is 5% up to $1 million and 10% above that. The project also has to hire Texas residents for at least 35% of its paid cast and crew and complete 60% of the production in the state.

Can you film at our headquarters or job site?

Yes. We film in offices, plants, campuses, and field sites. Before the shoot we agree a schedule with your facilities and security teams, pick quiet rooms for interviews, and arrange releases for any employees who appear on camera.

Do you work in Fort Worth and the suburbs?

We cover the whole Metroplex across Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, and Denton counties. That includes Fort Worth, Arlington, Irving, Plano, Frisco, Richardson, Addison, McKinney, and Grapevine.

What do you need from us to start?

A short description of the video, your deadline, and a rough budget are enough for a first call. After that we send a proposal. Use the form on this page or call (424) 835-0405.
