Video Production for Orange County Brands

Brandefy is a full-service production company founded in 2011. Our Orange County office is in the Irvine Spectrum area, close to where the 5 and 405 meet and a manageable drive from most of the county’s business parks and beaches.

The work varies as much as the county does: a launch film for a device maker, a recruiting video for a software team, a resort spot timed for summer. Concept, shoot, and edit are handled as one job, so you have a single point of contact from brief to final file.

Budgets
About $5,000 to $100,000+ per project
Timelines
From 2 weeks for a single video to 12+ for a full campaign
Formats
Live action, 2D and 3D animation, or a mix of both
Where we film
Irvine, Newport Beach, Anaheim, Huntington Beach, and the rest of the county

Permits and Planning for Orange County Shoots

The county has no single film office for city locations. Each of its 34 cities issues its own permits, and a beach can belong to a city, the county, or the state. Minimum lead times for three coastal locations:

5business days

Huntington Beach

The city permits its own beach, including the sand around the pier. Scenes filmed in the water also need a Marine Safety Officer on site.

5business days

Newport Beach

Applications go through FilmLA, and a permit is required on public and private property alike. Liability coverage starts at $1 million.

4business days

State beaches

Huntington State Beach and Bolsa Chica are permitted by the California Film Commission. State Parks adds a daily review fee.

Also worth knowing

  • County parks and beaches, such as Salt Creek Beach and Laguna Coast Wilderness Park, are permitted through OC Parks.
  • Much of central Orange County is controlled airspace around John Wayne Airport, so drone flights there need FAA authorization first.
  • Huntington Beach asks drone operators for proof of drone insurance and an FAA-licensed pilot. State parks review drone requests case by case.
  • Shopping centers, office campuses, and resorts are private property, so filming there depends on the owner’s approval.
  • Late spring often brings morning cloud to the coast. Beach exteriors are safer scheduled for the afternoon, with a backup date held.
  • California’s film tax credit does not cover commercials or projects under $1 million, so budgets should not count on it.

Orange County Video Production: Your Questions

Have one that isn’t listed? Call (424) 835-0405 and we’ll answer it directly.

Where is your Orange County office?

At 200 Spectrum Center Drive in Irvine, CA 92618, near the junction of the 5 and 405 freeways. Brandefy opened in 2011, and our headquarters are in Santa Monica, California.

What should we budget for a video?

Full-service projects usually run from around $5,000 to more than $100,000. The spread comes from shoot days, crew and cast size, locations, and animation work. We price each project once we have talked through the brief.

How soon can a video be ready?

A simple video is typically ready two to four weeks after kickoff. Add a couple of weeks when there are several shoot days or heavy post-production, and plan on three months or more for a large campaign. Beach and street permits add roughly a week of lead time.

Who handles film permits in Orange County?

It varies by location. Each of the county’s 34 cities has its own film permit office, OC Parks covers county parks and beaches, and the California Film Commission permits state beaches. We work out which office applies and file the paperwork during pre-production.

Is beach filming allowed?

Yes, with the right permit. Huntington Beach asks for at least five business days, Newport Beach routes applications through FilmLA, and state beaches need four business days through the California Film Commission. Scenes in the water may also require a safety officer or lifeguard.

Do you produce animation as well as live action?

Yes. We make 2D explainers, 3D product animation, and motion graphics, and animation can be combined with filmed footage in the same video.

Do you film outside Orange County?

Yes. Brandefy has offices in other U.S. cities, and a shoot based here can extend into Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, or San Diego County.

How do we request a quote?
